Help Coimbatore Heal
We are a student-run initiative based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, that seeks to undertake COVID relief and aid operations in and around the district.
The COVID pandemic has ravaged India over the last year and shows no signs of slowing down. It has left us all in a state of disarray, with people unable to access essential resources - oxygen, medication, critical care - or worse, uninformed about where to start looking. It immediately became evident that directing people towards verified resources was the need of the hour.
Tavissi Jain - the driving force behind our group - took it upon herself to bridge this gap in information between resources and the people in need. She played a pivotal role in directing people to oxygen cylinders in Delhi, throughout April and May, while serving as the Oxygen Support Coordinator for Miranda House Help Desk in Delhi, NCR. After watching Coimbatore succumb to the second wave of the pandemic in a similar manner as she has in Delhi, she decided to put her experience to good use by starting Coimbatore COVID Aid to direct the citizens in and around Coimbatore to quintessential resources. After working individually on the cause, she realised it wasn't enough and decided to recruit student volunteers to her cause and expand the reach of Coimbatore COVID Aid to better aid fellow citizens.
We are a group of student volunteers who have been working tirelessly to keep up with the evolving situation under COVID and carry out essential interventions.
We help direct people who live in and around Coimbatore to quintessential COVID resources.
Our current work revolves around four different projects. ‘The Help Desk’ is a database of verified information consisting of resources (which includes beds, medicines, oxygen, etc.) for COVID patients in Coimbatore that is updated regularly. ‘The Info Desk’ was created out of the necessity to disseminate correct information. COVID-related information that is verified by a team of doctors, is published on all our social media platforms in Tamil as well as English to ensure accessibility to all.
Our group has been working tirelessly to keep up with the increasing demand for oxygen cylinders, attributed to the rapid increase in COVID cases. Born out of this need was our ‘Help Tiruppur Breathe’ project, which aims to raise funds to procure oxygen cylinders. Lastly, our ‘Food Chapter’ project is geared towards connecting families that are willing to provide food with those that are quarantined due to COVID.
